Work is progressing on Rockdale Technology Center, a project of Ackerman & Co. of Atlanta. The 92 acres on the northern side of Interstate 20 along Dogwood Drive will be developed and will eventually encompass 1 million square feet of industrial/warehouse/distribution space.
Company officials say that the development will be home to four buildings of various sizes, with the largest expected to be 550,000 square feet. Construction on two tilt-wall spec buildings, of 135,000 and 185,000 square feet, is already underway. Completion of the first two buildings is expected in early 2019.
Ackerman representatives say that the buildings will be suitable for “traditional industrial users,” such as food-related (freezer/cooler) industries, manufacturers, recycling firms, biotech users and others.
The Rockdale site is considered desirable by tenants because of its high visibility along the I-20 corridor, the adjacent CSX rail line, its proximity to a proposed full-diamond interchange at Salem Road and its location east of Atlanta with access to the metro area and the Port of Savannah, and the potential for economic and tax incentives.
